Welcome to my blog!

¡Hola, Meadowbrook Families!

My name is Rachel Scherer, and I am so please to be your child's Spanish teacher! It has been so great to get back into the swing of the school year, both with students I have had in past years, as well as many friendly faces, too! Throughout the school year, please visit this blog to see updates about what we are learning about in class, as well as see photos and videos of some of the many songs, games and projects we work on together.

For those new to the Spanish program, Spanish meets every day for 30 minutes. We are so lucky to see each other every day! In class, I speak to the students 90% Spanish and 10% English in all grade levels. The students are encouraged to do the same beginning in 2nd grade. You would be amazing with the language they are capable of producing! 1st graders are obviously encouraged to speak as much Spanish as possible, however, the focus of the 1st grade curriculum is to build a solid foundation of basic vocabulary and memorized useful phrases. Many phrases are taught with intention, however, it is even more exciting to hear them start using words and phrases I use informally in class! What an exciting journey to be a part of!

I'm really looking forward to sharing our learning experiences with you. Please feel free to call or email me with any comments or questions. My email is

Sra. Scherer
